Drake University, Des Moines, Iowa, suffered an early season loss to St. Mary's College, Moraga, Calif., on December 5, 2012.
The Bulldogs of Drake gave up 31 points to Matthew Dellavedova (pictured below) of St. Mary's (Gaels). Dellavedova, a member of the Australian Olympic basketball team, troubled the Bulldogs all night, not only with his scoring, but also by leading the Gaels with seven assists. Dellavedova also led the Gaels with nine turnovers. Drake missed starter Jordan Clarke's defensive presence, who was the Bulldog's leading rebounder coming into the game. The Bulldogs had 20 combined rebounds in comparison to the Gaels 38. Clarke only played nine minutes of ball, all in the first half, before he seemed to hurt his hand. Clarke also seemed to be under the weather. Jeremy Jeffers came off the bench to lead to lead the Bulldogs with 16 points. |
