My second, and alas, last football game of the season came on November 10. The Bulldogs of Drake University faced off against the Bulldogs of Butler University.
Butler took the lead in the first quarter, but after that the Drake offense woke up and scored 14 points in the second quarter, 14 points in the their quarter, and 17 points in the third quater. Riding an offensive yards advantage of 546 yards to 303 yards, Drake pulled away with a 45 to 20 victory.
I finally got a chance to shoot football after a three year hiatus when the folks over at Drake University, Des Moines, Iowa, agreed to let me on the sidelines for a few of their games.
The first of these games was Drake (Bulldogs) versus Marist (Red Foxes). The Red Foxes, out of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., led for most of the game, but the Bulldogs pulled off some late game heroics to push the game into overtime. During overtime, the Bulldogs scored on their possession and then sacked the quarterback of the Foxes, twice, to win the game. By the end of the game, the Bulldogs had scored the final 31 points of the game.
